A Cracovia, la catedral es troba força allunyada del centre polític, social i comercial de la ciutat, però això s'explica per la seva historia medieval. El nucli de poder original de Cracovia era l'actual castell de Wawel, aleshores en si mateix LA ciutat. Amb el temps, el nou nucli amb molta més capacitat per creixer i expandir-se va sorgir a baix, a la plana. Però les catedrals dificilment es mouen. Allà, a Stare Miesto, va centrar la vida religiosa la Basílica de Santa Maria.
Però la importancia religiosa i política de la catedral es va mantenir en ser la seu arquebisbal i lloc de coronació i enterrament reial.
Casos similars es poden trobar tant a Praga (amb la catedral també "aillada" dalt Hradkany) com a Lleida, on la Seu Vella està alla dalt tot soleta. Però en el cas lleidatà hi ha una nova catedral a baix perquè l'exercit espanyol va expropiar per al seu ús militar tot turó de la Seu, per derecho de conquista.

In Krakow, the cathedral is quite far from the political, social and commercial center of the city, but this is explained by its medieval history. The original center of power in Krakow was the current Wawel Castle, then in itself THE city. Over time, the new core with much more capacity to grow and expand emerged below on the plain. But cathedrals hardly move. There, in Stare Miesto, religious life was centered in the Basilica of St. Mary.
But the religious and political importance of the cathedral remained as it was the seat of the archbishop and the place of coronation and royal burial for Polish kings.
Similar cases can be found both in Prague (with the cathedral also "isolated" above Hradkany) and in Lleida, where the Seu Vella is all alone up there.
