Birkenau: rera la filferrada, la revolta / Crematorium uprising

Això el més proper que varem arribat als crematori IV, on es va produir l'aixecament més rellevant contra els nazis dins d'Auschwitz. Aquí, els presos del Sonderkommando situat al Krematorium IV van aconseguir aconseguir algunes armes i pólvora negra i aixecar-se contra els seus assassins. És difícil saber l'abast real del que va passar, però sembla que van aconseguir matar uns SS i van calar foc a l'edifici, destruint-lo. Però les SS els van capturar i executar a tots aquell mateix dia. Les escasses restes del Krema IV amb prou feines són visibles darrere d'aquesta filferrada.
Si teniu estomac per mirar-la, potser la millor pel·licula sobre les cambres de gas i els Sonderkommando que les feia funcionar, és La Zona Gris (2001), de Tim Blake Nelson.

Auschwitz. Què més puc dir més enllà d’aquest toponim en alemany d’una vila polonesa. Tots ja sabeu què fou, de 1940 a 1945. Aquí es creà un camp de concentració per la explotació salvatge i mortal dels enemics del III Reich. Però sobretot a partir de 1943 i a la seva extensió (i futur camp independent) de Birkenau: l’extermini dels jueus europeus a nivell industrial.
Birkenau, o Auschwitz II, fou la expansió massiva del camp original (després conegut com Auschwitz I) a partir de 1942, inicialment amb el proposit d'explotar l'influx massiu de presoners de guerra sovietics, però que aviat va canviar cap a camp d'extermini per als jueus europeus, francesos, holandesos, grecs i sobretot, polonesos i hongaresos. Les cambres de gas de Birkenau començaren a funcionar el març de 1942 i no pararen fins octubre de 1944. Finalment, el camp fou alliberat el 21 de gener de 1945. Els nazis hi assassinaren més de 1.300.000 persones, la gran majoria just baixar dels trens, i la gran majoria, jueus...

This is the nearest we got to the Crematoria IV and V, where the most relevant uprising against the nazis INSIDE Auschwitz took place. Here, the inmates of the Sonderkommando located in Krematorium IV managed to get some weapons and black powder and rise against their murderers. It's difficult to know the real extent of what happended, but it seems they managed to kill some SS and set fire to the building, destroying it. But the SS captured and executed all of them that same day. The scant remains of Krema IV are barely visible behind that barb wire fence.
If you have the stomach to watch it, perhaps the best film about the gas chambers and the Sonderkommando who operated them is Tim Blake Nelson's The Gray Zone (2001).
