Picture taken with my Zeiss Ikon Contax II made in 1936; KMZ Jupiter-12 f2.8/35mm lens, made in 1959; Revelab BW-XX (Kodak Double-X a.k.a. Eastman 5222) film, developed in undiluted Bellini D96.

I was lucky enough that a few months before my visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, Jonathan Glazer's film The Zone of Interest was released. It later won 2 Academy Awards. The film shows the day-to-day life of Rudolf Höss and his family, the commandant of Auschwitz, in his house right next to the concentration camp.

Well, that real house still exists, and is inhabited, so the movie wasn't filmed there. But thanks to Google Maps I was able to see that the house where it was filmed is just a hundred meters away, on the same street. In fact, in Streetview you can see the props being built. It is this one: the style (and age) is practically the same as the original, and for the filming they surrounded it with a luxurious garden, a guard tower and a concrete wall like the one in Auschwitz. It was very convenient for the film crew, as this house is uninhabited. When I went through all the added scenery had been completely dismantled, nothing remains. Of course, not only the house is the one in the film, but also all the trees.
