Casemate Aschenbach
IN ENGLISH BELOW THE LINE

Picture taken with a Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 531/2 medium format camera, made c.1936; Carl Zeiss Tessar f.38 / 105mm lens; Ilford FP4+ film. The camera is older than this bunker, as this one was built in 1938.
To the south of the Alsatian village of Uffheim there is a line of casemates, the final and not very reinforced part of the Maginot Line.
In fact, this entire sector of the line does not look towards the German border, but towards Switzerland, since it was a security measure against the (unlikely) case that the Germans attacked the rear of the Maginot Line by violating Swiss neutrality.
One of these casemates is that of Aschenbach, and it has been restored. Unfortunately it was closed when we went there. But you can see the armored dome as well as several exterior elements. There was no combat at all, in this area, during World War II.
