A la Vallferrera, al Pallars Sobirà, no tots els pobles han sobreviscut al ségle XX. Aquest en concret, Besan, va quedar deshabitat cap al 1967. Amb tot, sembla que a inicis d'aquest segle s'hi varen censar algunes persones i una sola casa es manté sencera i fins hi tot amb signes de certa activitat.
També aguanta sencera, encara, la bonica església de Santa Maria de Besan, d'origen romanic. El campanar compta amb un pas inferior, però que només porta a poguer voltar l'església. Afortunadament sembla que s'hi estan fent tasques de conservació perquè la teulada sembla força fragil. Davant la façana (des d'on vaig fer la foto), s'exten el petit cementiri.
Per arribar a Besan cal caminar pel camí força costerut que hi porta. Fou la manca de carretera el que "matà" el poble. Fins hi tot el recondit Tor manté certa població (i molta fama) gracies a la carretera que hi porta (i que hi és perque continua fins a Andorra).

In the Vallferrera, in the Pallars Sobirà, not all the towns have survived the 20th century. This particular one, Besan, was left uninhabited around 1967. However, it seems that at the beginning of this century some people were counted there and only one house remains intact and even shows signs of some activity.
The beautiful church of Santa Maria de Besan, of Romanesque origin, is also still intact. It seems they are reinforcing it's roof to avoid further ruin. In front of the church lays the graveyard.

To get to Besan you have to walk along the rather steep path that leads there. It was the lack of road that "killed" the town. Even the hidden Tor maintains a certain population (and a lot of fame) thanks to the road that leads there (and is there because it continues to Andorra).
