Fa unes setmanes vaig comprar online un objectiu per a ultra gran format (més gran de 8x10 polzades), escollint un Schneider Kreuznach Symmar Convertible f5.6 360/620mm montat en un obturador Compound.
Tenia especial interès en aquest objectiu per la possibilitat de tenir dues focals en un sol objectiu. En efecte, desmontant la part posterior de la lent i montant-la en lloc de la anterior, es passa d'un objectiu de 360mm a un de 620mm. I a més pot cobrir formats ULF, com el 10x12 o fins i tot el 14x17! Aquest objectiu en concret, amés, era "relativament" barat i portava tant una rosca de montatge com un anell de retenció. Així, la puc montar amb la rosca en la Vageeswari 10x12" i alhora amb l'anell de retenció en la Sinar.
Doncs be, apart de problemes amb poguer desenroscar la part frontal, que estava una mica oxidada (però finalment cedí), de cop el obturador es bloquejà i no funcionava amb cap dels modes.
Em vaig decidir a obrir-lo, ja que ja tinc expereincia en els Compur (dial i rim), probablement més complexes i tot. Pensava que alguna molla havia saltat de lloc, però... resulta que un dels cargols de subjecció del pistó de velocitats lentes (a la part superior del obturador) s'havia trencat, quedant el cap d'aquest bloquejant el moviment de les peces internes del obturador. Un cop tret de lloc, el mecanisme funciona perfectament. Només va quedar assegurar el punt del cargol amb una mica de cola d'impacte, ja que no puc extraure el que queda del cargol.

A few weeks ago I bought a lens for ultra large format (ULF, larger than 8x10 inches) online, choosing a Schneider Kreuznach Symmar Convertible f5.6 360/620mm mounted on a Compound shutter.
I was particularly interested in this lens because of the possibility of having two focal depths in a single lens. In fact, by removing the rear part of the lens and mounting it in front instead of the usual one, you go from a 360mm to a 620mm lens. And it can also cover ULF formats, such as 10x12" or even 14x17"! This particular lens, moreover, was "relatively" cheap and had both a mounting flange and a retaining ring. Thus, I can mount it in the Vageeswari 10x12" with the flange, and at the same time in the Sinar board with the retaining ring.
Well, apart from problems with being able to unscrew the front part, which was a bit rusty (but finally gave in), suddenly the shutter locked and it didn't work in any of the modes.
I decided to open it, since I already have experience with the Compurs (dial and rim), probably more complex than this one. I thought a spring had popped out, but... it turns out one of the slow speed piston hold down screws (on top of the shutter) had broken, leaving the head of it blocking the movement of the parts shutter internals. Once removed, the mechanism works perfectly. All that was left was to secure the bolt point with some instant glue as I can't get what's left of the bolt out.
