Església invertida / Reversed church
No no us feu pel·licules, aquesta església no és ni satànica, ni erotico-festiva (ni que fos Solsona, tu!).
La seva inversió és arquitectònica. On ara té la porta, abans hi havia l'altar (i l'altar està ara a l'altre extrem).
Es tracta de l'església gòtica del poble fortificat de Pena (Penne en francès), al Tarn.
Això es deu a que l'església original estava amb l'abside (i altar) orientat a llevant, com era usual a l'edat mitjana. Alhora, l'abside servia de muralla exterior del poble. La porta deuria ser a la dreta, en el carrer major i dintre muralles. Però amb el temps, davant l'abside es creà la plaça major, i la muralla va perdre el seu sentit. Per això, algú decidí que el més eficient era tenir la porta de l'esglesia al centre de la plaça. La resta, és historia!

Its "reversal" is architectural. Where the door now stands, there used to be the apse and altar (and the altar is now at the other end).
This is the Gothic church of the fortified village of Pena (Penne in French), in the Tarn.
This odd disposition is because the original church faced east, as was usual in the Middle Ages. At the same time, the apse served as the fortified wall of the village. The door should be on the right, on the high street and inside walls. But over time, the main square was created in front of the apse, and the wall was abandoned. So someone decided that the most efficient thing was to have the church door in the center of the square, and put the altar on the other side of the nave. The rest is history!
