Santuari d'El Far / El Far church
L'església del Santuari d'El Far, a La Selva. Està situat dramàticament sobre un cingle que domina tota la vall del Ter mitjà, des de Sau fins a Girona ciutat. De fet, el terme "far" indica que es feu servir, segurament en època romana, com a punt de transmissió de senyals.
Heu vist El Senyor dels Anells, en concret El Retorn del Rei? Doncs això.

This is the rather squat and massive church of El Far sanctuary, in Catalonia. It's located on top of a large cliff, like a huge boat's prow (at 1123 m. above sea level). It's far from the coast, yet it's name El Far ("the lighthouse") may confuse some people.
But in ancient and medieval times, the name "far", pharus in latin, meant not only the coastal ones, but all kind of light signaling positions: fire beacons. Have you seen "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"? That's it!
