Campanar supervivient / Lonely survivor

IN ENGLISH BELOW THE LINE

====================

In the Catalan town of Sentmenat, the bell tower is separated from the church by a few tens of meters, suggesting the Italian custom in this regard. But here the story is different. In the Middle Ages, the entire Romanesque church of Sant Menas was next to its bell tower, but in the 18th century this temple collapsed. The new Baroque church was built on the other side of the street, but the original romanesque bell tower was preserved, and is still in use.

To add complexity, its base leverages the structures of the V Century Late-Roman church. In fact, it is quite logical, since Saint Menna is a late-Roman saint and not very common in these areas unless a church was linked to a Roman site. By the way, the current name of the town is Sentmenat, obviusly derived from it's unusual devotion to this exotic saint.

Photo taken with a Folmer & Schwing Graflex 1A camera, manufactured around 1916; Cooke Anastigmat f4.5 lens; Fomapan 100 developed with HC110. This camera uses 116 film, but I have used 120 format with adaptors. I should have done something wrong during development, to get these "waves" to the emulsion ...
