Barricades al claustre / Bloody cloister
El monestir barceloní de St. Agustí Vell, prop d'el Born, fou un dels principals camps de batalla del 11 de Setembre del 1714, i un dels pocs que encara es poden visitar. De fet, quasi no en queda res, del antic monestir gotic, en ruines acabada la batalla, i enderrocat posteriorment. A sobre seu, i per a més dallonses, els ocupants construiren una caserna militar, actualment un centre civic i el museu de la xocolata.
Però una ala del claustre gòtic i de lateral de l'església sobreviuen, i aquí mateix es lluità aferrisadament habitació per habitació, i amb barricades al propi claustre, durant tota la matinada i matí del 11 de setembre. Els borbonics ocuparen tot el monestir en el primer assalt, però un contraatac català el reconquerí, per a perdre'n una part posteriorment. Finalment, quan arribà l'alto el foc, aproximadament el front passava just per aquí el claustre i la resta de dependencies. El més curiós del cas es que l'ala gotica que sobreviu és on s'atrinxeraren els defensors catalans, i la façana de la antiga caserna militar és on arribaren els ocupants borbonics. L'arquitectura perviu encara avui aquell enfrontament.

In Barcelona, the former St. Agustí Vell abbey, near El Born, was one of the main battlefields of the September 11th, 1714 assault, and one of the few that can still be visited. In fact, there is almost nothing left of the old Gothic monastery, ruined in the battle, and later demolished. Above him, adding insult to injury, the occupants built their military barracks, now a civic center and the chocolate museum of Barcelona.
But a wing of the gothic cloister and a wall of the church survived. Here, a room by room combat was fought, with barricades in this very cloister, all morning of September 11. The Spanish and French borbonic armies occupied the whole monastery in the first assault, but a Catalan counterattack reconquered it arround mid morning, to lose a part later. Finally, when the ceasefire came about 3 PM, the front was fixed in the cloister and other dependencies right there. The most curious thing is that the Gothic wing that survives is where Catalans defenders were entrenched, and the façade of the old military barracks is where the Bourbon occupants arrived. Architecture still maintains that confrontation.
