The baroque church of Alguaire, north of Lleida, tells us of the hatred and destruction of war, specially the civil wars. It was destroyed in the summer of 1936 at the beginning of the spanish civil war by anarchist militias, I presume (I only know the year, but arround Lleida the anarchists were the f###ing masters that summer, so...). As ALMOST ALL of the churches in Catalonia, Alguaire's was burnt, and even destroyed. In other towns like Vic or Manresa there were other churches demolished stone by stone, even when there was shortage of soldiers in the front against the fascist forces. It all reminds me of the current hatred by the daesh against everything not acording to their sick mind.
After the war the church was "rebuilt", sort of. I supose it was the harsh times of the post-war years that dictated such a messy patch. Yet it it's a much more powerful reminder of that bloody war.
In a way, it reminds me of the Phantom of the Opera.
