El castell de Valencia d'Àneu, fortificació medieval molt arrasada, té no obstant, importancia historica singular. Aquí fou el darrer punt de resistencia de Hug Roger III, comte de Pallars, contra l'autoritat reial de Joan II i el seu fill Ferran II. Però de fet fou la seva dona, Caterina Albert, qui menà la defensa del castell en absencia de Hug Roger, mentre aquest buscaba al·liats a l'Arieja. Tot plegat un altre trist episodi de la crisi política del s. XV.

The poor ruins (now at least excaved and consolidated) of the castle of Valencia d'Àneu, the mightiest fortress of the Count of Pallars. It was in fact the last stand of Hug Roger III and his wife against the count of Barcelona and king of Aragon, Ferran II, in 1487.
