Judge Enma

The deity Yama was originally hIndu, and then Buddhist, and then just sort of bled into a lot of near and far-eastern traditions. In Japan, he is called "Enma."

 

Enma is the unforgiving judge of the dead. He is in charge of meteing out karmic punishment on those who deserve it - but not before, of course, asking them if they ever stopped to consider what they were doing. But he does show mercy if someone's karma is good
