Goku Vs. Broly
It's David and Goliath, only without slings or religion.
So, is the 8th DBZ movie really good, or overrated? Well, yes.
As far as Dragon Ball movies go, it's pretty well-made - it's longer than the others, takes time to build a decent story, and has good fight choreography that goes on for a decnet amount of time (unlike some of the movies, where it's over way too soon). But theeeeeeeen... the plot is really simple, Broly isn't exactly all that deep a character, and most of the fighting is Broly no-selling everything before Goku takes him down with one punch.
And hey, what about the dub? Well, the acting is hit and miss. The usual suspects who by this time had been at it for hundreds of episodes are just fine. Paragus's vpoice is so-so - he emotes well in a couple of scenes, and sounds like a high schooler in others. And Bro... Vic Mignogna is a really talented voice actor, but not for big raspy-voiced shouting people. So sometimes he sounds great, other times he just doesn't sound right. It's not too bad in the end, although Broly's Japanese voice was actually good. And as for the dub music changes... well, anything that's different from the disco-circus music in DBZ's original version is an improvement. Besides, they picked fitting songs (lots of crashing and loudness0.
And again, the fight choreography is nice by DBZ standards - people don't take time to power up, and there's a comparative shortage of energy blasts. It's mostly Broly clotheslining peoplek, draggin gthem through the dirt, soccer-kicking them, stomping on them, and the like. And isn't old-fashioned violence why we're here in the first place?
Now, the SMARTEST thing would be to wait for the Team Four Star abridged version!
