Marquis Marchosias
"Marchosias is a great marquesse, he sheweth himselfe in the shape of a cruell shee woolfe, with a griphens wings, with a serpents taile, and spetting I cannot tell what out of his mouth. When he is in a mans shape, he is an excellent fighter, he answereth all questions trulie, he is faithfull in all the conjurors businesse, he was of the order of dominations, under him are thirtie legions: he hopeth after 1200 yeares to returne to the seventh throne, but he is deceived in that hope." -Johann Wier (1583)
More simply: Marchosias appears as a wolf (sometimes male, sometimes female) with griffin's wings and a serpent's tail, and spits flames - though he can turn into a man on command. he's a powerful fighter, and more reliable than most demons when it comes to answering questions. The reason for this is because he is deluded into thinking that he can earn his way back into Heaven... which is kinda sad, really. Actually, very sad. Though admittedly, it gets less sad when you realize that he readily commands thirty legions of Hell's forces, which doesn't seem all that repentant. Oops!
Another entry in the "Things I Am No Longer Allowed to Do" list is: "I am not allowed to call Marchosias and his demonic legions 'Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.'"
ADDENDUM: I totally screwed the pooch (bad pun!) on this one, originally identifying him as Amon. I've fixed and relabeled the original image: www.flickr.com/photos/74529773@N07/7091613595/
