Thomas Grubba
Fairlane MBTH 2
Second of the Fairlane MBTH series.
What I try to accomplish in BTH and KTCH (bathroom and kitchen shots, realtor abbreviations) is to not blow out the vanity and or island lights. So I base my exposure on that and light from there. The skylight is a little hot in this one, but I certianly wasn't going to balance for that. So the lighting set up is my standard BTH with a twist.
One on camera, wide angle diffusion (Just the flip down built in piece on the flash, otherwise known as WAD) pointed up and to the right at 1/16th power.
One on the floor to the left of me, pointed at my feet, WAD, 1/32nd power and the tricky part:
Normally I would have placed a light CL about 4' high, full diffusion at about 1/32nd power bounced into the ceiling/corner. However on this one I would have picked up a nasty reflection in the shower glass. So what I did was have a flash above my head about 5' high, WAD, pointed left, down and into the room M. James style at about 1/64th power. That gave me the fill I needed to balance out the tub with the rest of the room.
Oh, and all SB-800's in SU-4 mode.
