Thomas Grubba
Cortez KTCH 1
This one is for Tyra... The infamous "Chinese Checkers Shot."
Shooting over objects has always been tricky, not blowing out the foreground, yet getting enought light into the scene. In a way I'm not all that happy with the perspective, I would have liked to capture more of the stove, but the fireplace in the living room was important and if I stood up anymore I got a nasty shadow from the lamp above the table.
Lighting set up is as usual all SB800's:
One below table pointed into the room, wide angle diffusion at 1/32 power.
One to the left of camera pointed into corner, full diffusion at 1/4 power.
One on camera, wide angle diffusion pointed behind me and into corner to get rid of the lamp shadows at 1/8th power.
2 in the living room, one to the left of the fireplace, wide angle diffusion, pointed into the corner at 1/4 power and one straight ahead pointed into the foyer area, also wide angle diffusion at 1/16th power.
