boxes 007

This little box, which measures 2.25" high, is decorated with a technique known as cloisonne which dates back to the 14th century, although this of course is modern.

The technique involves soldering gold wire to a metal base and then filling the spaces with enamel. After firing the work is ground to a smooth finish and polished.

The Chinese are expert at this kind of work and most of cloisonne comes from China.
