Symmerus sp. Found at Mayville Ledge Beech-Maple Woods SNA in east-central Wisconsin. Dodge County, Wisconsin, USA.
Found projecting out of debarked section of American beech log in mixed hardwood forest. As I was photographing a small ant a couple inches away, I caught this scene unfolding in the corner of my eye. I only got three shots before the fly plopped to the wood surface.
