Mating round fungus beetles interrupted by ant

Found at Mill Bluff SNA in west central Wisconsin. Juneau County, Wisconsin, USA.

Found in wooded area near Ragged Rock.

I found a nice little patch of Chocolate Tube Slime on a fallen tree that had a pair of mating round fungus beetles on it. The female of the pair was chomping on the slime mold fruiting body. I lined my camera up for a shot and was about to snap a pic when this ant with dented head ambled in and started harassing the couple. The beetles decoupled and escaped.

Single exposure, moderately cropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-26EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie and plastic cup diffuser.
