Mating Tiger Beetles (Ellipsoptera lepida)

Ellipsoptera lepida (Dejean, 1831) - Ghost Tiger Beetle. Found in central Wisconsin. Juneau County, Wisconsin, USA.

 

Found on one of the high quality sand blows at this preserve. One of several mating pairs I photographed this day. The female of this pair has severed/amputated antennae.
