Robber Fly
Found at Swartberg Hiking Trail - De Hoek trail head, SE of Prince Albert. Western Cape, South Africa.
Robber fly is a female.
Numerous individuals of this species were hanging out around a patch of yellow wildflowers. They were preying on bees and other insects visiting the flowers for nectar.
I think these robbers could actually be pollinating the flowers as they fly from flower perch to flower perch. Plenty of pollen on the robber's body.
Found in this general vicinity: 33.36275S 22.17060E.
Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
