Plate-thigh Beetle (Eucinetus sp.) and Stemonitis slime mold

Eucinetus sp., almost certainly E. morio LeConte, 1853. Found at Mayville Ledge Beech-Maple Woods SNA in east-central Wisconsin. Dodge County, Wisconsin, USA.

Beetle is in the 3mm range.

Found in mixed hardwood forest. It was found on the trunk of a dead fallen debarked hardwood tree. I saw 3 of these beetles on this fallen tree this day. This individual presented me with the opportunity to get some nice association shots with slime molds, which was a major goal of mine for the season.

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-26EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie and plastic cup diffuser.
