Weevil (Microhyus setiger)

Microhyus setiger LeConte, 1876. Tentative ID based on bugguide.net images. Found at Mayville Ledge Beech-Maple Woods SNA in east-central Wisconsin. Dodge County, Wisconsin, USA.

Beetle is in the 2mm range.

Found in mixed hardwood forest. It was found on the trunk of a dead fallen debarked hardwood tree. They are very small and slow-moving and look like debris to the naked eye. So relatively difficult to find.

This species is associated with dead beech trees and there are definitely beech trees in the area. Don't know if this fallen tree is beech, but maybe.

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-26EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie and plastic cup diffuser.
