Syrphid Fly (Orthonevra nitida)

Male Orthonevra nitida (Wiedemann, 1830). Found at Abraham's Woods SNA in southern Wisconsin. Green County, Wisconsin, USA.

 

Saw several of these this day, mostly on stems and inflorescences of Queen Anne's Lace (Daucus carota) in grassland/oldfield forest opening. These are pretty small, 4-6mm.
