Robber Fly (Dasylechia atrox)
Dasylechia atrox (Williston 1883). Found at Festge County Park in southern Wisconsin. Dane County, Wisconsin, USA.
It was sitting on a branch about 13-15 feet up in an oak tree next to trail running between prairie and edge of oak/hickory forest/savanna. These branches were overhanging the trail. This distance seems to be practical limit of this 180mm and teleconverter setup. Need to take out a longer lens when hunting this species.
