Long-horned Beetle (Purpuricenus humeralis)

Purpuricenus humeralis (Fabricius, 1798). Tentative ID based on bugguide.net images. Found at Necedah NWR in central Wisconsin. Juneau County, Wisconsin, USA.

Found crawling on log in a log pile. It eventually crawled under a bark piece and seemed to be ovipositing. I was lucky to get it in focus and mostly in frame in this shot as it was moving about very quickly.

Single exposure, moderatetly cropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
