Robber Fly (Lampria bicolor) with prey

Female Lampria bicolor (Wiedemann, 1828). Found at Hamel private property in central Wisconsin. Marquette County, Wisconsin, USA.

 

Prey is an ant.

 

Saw several of these this day. Very skittish and hard to get close to. This one with prey was a bit easier to approach. Open forest.
