Robber Fly

Found at Swartberg Hiking Trail - De Hoek trail head, SE of Prince Albert. Western Cape, South Africa.

 

Asilinae of sorts. A large robber, possibly a female Promachus sp.?

 

These were mostly perching on sides and sometimes tops of rocks in a rock-strewn grassy/scrubby area.
