Robber Fly (Anarmostus iopterus)
Female Anarmostus iopterus Loew, 1860. Thanks to Dr. Eric Fisher for confirming the species determination on 'diptera.info' website. Found at Finca Las Piedras, near town of Monterrey in Madre de Dios region in southeastern Peru.
She was perching on the side of a fallen tree. She was wary and very hard to approach. I only got a couple of shots from a distance before she tired of my presence and flew off.
