Robber Fly with prey

Male Cyrtopogon lutatius (Walker, 1849). Tentative ID based on bugguide.net images. Found at Sandhill SWA in central Wisconsin. Wood County, Wisconsin, USA.

 

Prey is a small fly. Several of these small robbers (both genders) were seen perching on fallen trees/logs.
