Hister Beetle (Hololepta sp.) with Phoretic Mites
Hololepta sp., I believe. Found at La Selva Biological Station, near Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí. Heredia Province, Costa Rica.
As I was scanning a pile of fallen tree limbs for insects, this nice hister beetle flew in and landed on one of the dead branches. There are 2 phoretic mites sitting on the head at the base of the mandibles.
