Psilocurus nudiusculus habitat
Trail (Yellowthroat Loop) at Resaca De La Palma State Park in far southern Texas. Cameron County, Texas, USA.
The robber fly Psilocurus nudiusculus Loew, 1874 was relatively common on this trail. They were perching on the trail itself and you could see them fly as you walked along, providing you were looking down and had your eyes adjusted to look for diminutive insects.
This particular spot was gravelly and had some small rotting fruits (not sure what kind). The flies here were perching both on the ground and on the fruits.
The flat bare ground here, while hard on the elbows, made it easy to get low for some close-ups.
