Robber Fly (Atomosia melanopogon)
Male Atomosia melanopogon Hermann, 1912. Thanks to Eric Fisher for providing the species determination on bugguide. Found at Government Canyon State Natural Area in northwest San Antonio. Bexar County, Texas, USA.
I found a little area that had a dozen or so of these flies. They were on rocks and on poles supporting signage. A couple were tolerant enough to let me get close with the MP-E.
