Robber Fly

Male Asilinae of sorts. Found at Tregole National Park. Queensland, Australia.

Another large and impressive species. Thinking Blepharotes, but don't know how to differentiate from Pararatus.

I was prone on the ground photographing a fantastic-looking lacewing (Periclystus) when I heard something large buzz in. Looked over and saw this beauty sitting on the perfect perch. Got a couple shots from a distance and then stealthily moved in a bit closer for a single shot and then it was gone.

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
