Syrphid Fly

Polybiomyia schnablei (Williston 1892). Thanks to Matthias Buck for confirming the species determination on bugguide. Found at Resaca De La Palma State Park in far southern Texas. Cameron County, Texas, USA.

 

This beauty and another similar one seemed to be ovipositing on the trunk of a living tree, near the base.
