Mydas Fly

Male Nemomydas brachyrhynchus (Osten Sacken, 1886), I believe. Found at Madera Canyon in Santa Rita Mountains. Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA.

There was a nice spot for these a ways up on the trail leading up from the Proctor Road parking lot. A bunch of males were flying around and landing on low forest understory vegetation. I also saw a couple of females flying around and ovipositing in the soil.

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
