Mantidfly (Dicromantispa interrupta)
Dicromantispa interrupta (Say, 1825). Thanks to Ross Hill for providing the determination on bugguide via related image of same individual. Found at Bracken Cave Preserve in northeast San Antonio. Comal County, Texas, USA.
Found on rock. This individual had recently emerged from it's pupal state (eclosed). As such I'm not sure if this is close to its final coloration. I think it must have pupated on the side of this rock as the cast pupal skin (exuvia) is visible in some of the shots. This find was great timing because it was reluctant or unable to fly off.
Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
