Robber Fly with prey

Found at Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve, SE of Barrydale. Western Cape, South Africa.

Prey is a hemipteran of sorts. Hidden by the front leg in this shot.

I saw several of these very interesting little (8-10mm) robber flies in a semi-open grassy area within the forest. They were hanging out mostly on shin-high grasses and short plants (clover, etc.). This is a female.

Found here: 34.00255S 20.83114E.

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
