Robber Fly with prey

Female Heteropogon sp. Found at Resaca De La Palma State Park in far southern Texas. Cameron County, Texas, USA.

Prey is the Wedge-shaped Beetle Ptilophorus wrightii (LeConte 1868), a male. This is a very sizable prey item for this robber fly genus, I think the largest I've seen.

The robber was hanging onto the branch tip with one leg, incredibly.

Single exposure, uncropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
