Female Chalcolepidius smaragdinus LeConte, 1854. Found about 0.7 km ExNE of Amado in southern Arizona. Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA.
I was photographing robber flies under a blazing midday sun and moved up a small slope into the shade of one of the very few trees in the area for some relief. This beauty was awaiting my arrival on one of the branches.
