Wedge-shaped Beetle (Ptilophorus wrightii)

Male Ptilophorus wrightii (LeConte 1868), I believe. Found at Resaca De La Palma State Park in far southern Texas. Cameron County, Texas, USA.

This species has a weird divided eye. You can see the upper part and lower part connected by a thin black strip in the enlarged version.

Saw several of these during my visits to the park. Some were on grass stems, some were on tree branch tips, one was on a shrub 'branch' tip, and one was being feasted upon by a robber fly.

Single exposure, moderately cropped, handheld, in situ. Canon MT-24EX flash unit, Ian McConnachie diffuser.
