Horse Fly

Tabanus atratus Fabricius, 1775, I believe. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in east-central Kansas. Chase County, Kansas, USA.

 

This and an individual of another species of Tabanus were sunning themselves on debarked trees/logs in log pile this morning.
