Soldier Fly

Ptecticus sackenii Williston 1885, I believe. Found at Pleasant Valley Conservancy SNA in southern Wisconsin. Dane County, Wisconsin, USA.

 

Found on low vegetation, mixed hardwood forest.

 

Supposedly the white and black coloration of the hind tarsus is diagnostic for the suspected species.
