Robber Fly (Atomosiella antennata)
Atomosiella antennata (Banks, 1920). Thanks to Eric Fisher for confirming my tentative determination on bugguide. Found at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in central New Mexico. Socorro County, New Mexico, USA.
I found these in the grasses off the John P. Taylor Jr. Memorial Trail on the refuge. I had originally wandered off the trail to check out what was visiting a patch of flowers, but then noticed these little beauties in the nearby grasses. They are in 4-5mm range.
