Robber Fly

Holcocephala sp. Found a nice little population of these at Hardscrabble Prairie SNA in far southern Wisconsin. Lafayette County, Wisconsin, USA.

 

I found this one early evening. Presumably it had settled on this bent over grass stem as an overnight resting spot. Very cooperative subject.
