Market Square, Darlington old postcard early 1960s
A lot to consider and enjoy on this card, with pleasingly natural colours.
The cars look to be mostly domestic models, but is that a Borgward in blue with the white roof?
No trace of the BRS 8-wheeler registered 5444 U. The orange and red van has signwriting for Palmers of Darlington. There is a tyre company called Palmers today, but apparently they started in 1985.
The scene looks much quieter now, with the almost inevitable pedestrianisation having taken place: goo.gl/maps/fBcfRoPebVUHCder6 The note written on the card includes advice that "The traffic goes here day and night...". They couldn't complain of that now, but has it lost some its character and life?
Card sent to an address in Aberdeenshire on 2nd September 1964 at a cost of 2.5d.
