High Street, Chelmsford old postcard 1960s

Yet another High Street in Essex, and another one I visited when I was young, as my grandparents lived in nearby Danbury and we went to Chemlsford with them. This scene is a bit before my time though, but my mum worked in town back then and I'll have to see how familiar it is to her.

Location here: goo.gl/maps/Mu5Md6SwErHWfXp4A

Many of the buildings are recognisable, but the block that includes the shop and Queen's Head pub on the left has now been gone, replaced by some typical 1960s/70s town centre architecture. Boots look to have moved across the road into one of the newer units.

Vehicles typical of the era, with an early fintail Morris Oxford/Austin Cambridge, Minis, Triumph Herald, I think a glimpse of a Hillman Imp, Ford Anglia van and Bedford TK.

Unsent card, no publisher's name given, ref. PT8287.
