LOW627Y disappearing Bedford mystery
Saw this number plate resting against the wall in the car park of a National Trust property. Couldn’t resist trying to find out a bit more about it. Cartell told me it was a Bedford, but didn’t give a model. DVLA said:

So, how does a plate that came off what was presumably an HGV last taxed in 1987 come to still be in existence 23 years later?! It wasn’t like this place was an old scrapyard or anything either, far from it...
