1987 Nissan 300C (Y30), 21/12/99

Purchased photo, photographer unknown.

The combination of wintry conditions and a big, powerful car with no ABS or traction control presumably contributed to the demise of this 300C. This one was registered D53AUY and DVLA says its tax was surrendered in January 2000 so this accident seemed to write it off.

The location was apparently Wintles (?) Hill, Westbury-on -Severn. For some reason I'm struggling to get onto other websites at present, so I can't try and find the location.

Back in the winter of 1999/2000 I was driving a 300C estate, I put it into a ditch on a snowy country road but luckily no damage was done and a local Land Rover owner pulled me out :-)

A year or so later I took on an accident-damaged 300C saloon myself, that one had suffered a hit in the side which meant the pillar had to be pulled out and a couple of doors fitted off a car destined for banger racing.

I wonder if this one ended up on the track? They were starting to be used in the bangers by then, and the damage on this one wouldn't have been an issue to a racer.

Edit: I suspect this was a John Powell photo.
